1.

Ewan Thomas Williams was not always a very nervous man. Actually, he use to be a very relaxed man who could care less about anything that would worry him. But of course that was before his work took over his life. “Work is life” is what his boss always told him. “Without work you are nothing” Ewan didn’t want to be a nothing, so he worked, and worked, and worked. Soon he lost touch with his family; his wife, daughter, and newly born son. He began spending his weekends working, hoping for a rise, or at least a promotion for all his hard work. But he got nothing. He didn’t want to be a nothing, so he kept on working, long into the night, without sleep or without eating sometimes. He was, as he did, nothing.

One night, as Ewan was working late into the night he began to drift a sleep. “No!” he yelled out. “You cannot go to sleep. I have to finish his tonight! It’s due next month! It must be done!” he told himself over and over again. He wanted to finish this stupid assignment tonight, even if it killed him in the process. But he could not help the fact that he was slowly falling asleep. He sighed and rubbed his eyes.

“Maybe a glass of coffee would help.” He said to himself. He looked around his desk full of paper for his coffee mug. It was empty when he found it. “Argh! Great, now I have to make more” he sighed as he got up and walked out of his office. It was late, around 2 AM. No one was there, not even the night watch man. Which was actually strange. Usually Charlie, the night watch man, was there around this time. Ewan looked around and started to get worried. He decided that he could do without the coffee and went back to his office.

He turned on all the lights in his office once he got there. Then he turned on the radio so that it played loudly. He was starting to get afraid. He forced himself not to show it. What if someone walked in? That would be horrible! Then again, it wouldn’t be so bad to have the company, thought Ewan. But still Ewan was by himself and he was even more tired then before. He yawned. Slowly he laid his head down on his desk and he fell asleep. It felt so good to have his eyes closed, thought Ewan just before he fell into a deep sleep.

Dreams. Ewan had not had a dream in a long time. He had always been so tired after work that he fell right to sleep without any dreams. But when Ewan did happen to dream, he usually had nightmares instead of “fun” dreams. Nightmares of his boss firing him, or of him missing a meeting, or even worse…. Missing a day at work! To normal people Ewan was a workaholic, which he was. Work was always on his mind, and it was starting to effect him. He needed to work on that problem, if he ever found the time too. But that was good-old-trustworthy-to-do-your-work Ewan. Ewan did not like being known as that, but that was him.

But then it happened. He dreamed! And it would be a life-changing dream.

When Ewan opened his eyes his jaw dropped. He was no longer in his office. He was somewhere…else. Somewhere strange. He looked around the strange place. He could see something that looked like an ocean. An ocean in the middle of his work? Wait, where was his office, the city, his house? Where was everything? He was alone. Alone in this strange place, how did he get here? He wondered.

At the moment he was sitting down on what looked like dirt. But it did not feel like dirt, and it did not look like dirt. It was brown, and shiny. How weird, thought Ewan. He felt the ground with his hand. It was hard.

Ewan got up and looked around. He decided to see the “ocean”. As he walked closer he noticed shapes in the water. “What the -?” Ewan said. He saw an upside down pyramid and several different ball shapes; in different colors.

“What the hell is going on?” he said to himself. Knowing that he would not get an answer.

He walked closer to the water and felt it. It had the same shiny color to it too. It felt like water, though. It was weird still. Ewan sighed and looked up. The sky was a dark gray and black. It looked like a tornado was coming, but the air was still. “Whoa, this is freaky” Ewan said. He was still having a hard time believing he was where he was. He wondered if this was just a dream, or if it was real? He had not dreamed in a long time so he was not sure. But he had to figure out one thing; what to do next?

Ewan could not think of what to do next! He just sat on the dirt-like-ground and pondered what to next. This had to be a dream, he thought. "It's impossible for it to be anything but that! But still....it is nice not to have to worry about work for once." Ewan said to himself. He suddenly wished had company, another person to talk too. But there was no one else, he was alone. He sighed and wondered how much longer it would be until he woke up? He had no clue. So, he sat there and looked at the shiny dirt that he was sitting on. Was it even dirt? He wondered.

He got up from the ground and decided to go for a walk around the place and see if he could get his bearings around the area. As he wandered around he noticed all the strange things in this place. But one thing he did not see was food. How could he surive without food? It was impossible. There were things here, he had to admit to that, but not food. Water yes, food no. Maybe if he looked around enough he would find an animal, or some type of fruit to eat, he thought.
